    Hello Cranky’s Wife

I was reading your posts on The Lovely Mrs. Davis blog regarding Laurie Berkner, and I was excited by your passion and confidence. I thought to myself, “Wow! I wish I had a publicist like that.” Then, I noticed you wrote, “I work with her and ONLY her…”, and I inferred from that line that you are not interested in being anyone else’s publicist. Did I infer correctly?

I am hoping I was wrong, but even if I was right, I’d still like to ask you for some direction if you don’t mind.

I am a rookie kids’ music artist called Silly Stevie T., and I released my debut CD in November of 2006. Visit www.SillyStevieT.com for details. It’s mostly rock music with lyrics intended for kids over six. I am now putting much effort into promoting myself and getting exposure. I don’t claim to be as talented a musician as Laurie Berkner, but I’m certain my songs are creative and funny, and I think I might even be somewhat unique (hopefully).

During my live show, I introduce various musical instruments to the kids and try to show them how much fun they can have making music. In addition to the traditional instruments, drums, guitar, and bass, I also show the sax, harmonica, recorder, bongos, xylophone, etc. After each instrument demo, I perform a song that features that instrument so the kids can make the connection.

I am thinking about making a video that mimics my live show. In the video, there would be segments in which I show crazy demos of me having fun with instruments, and then each of the segments would be followed by a music video of my song that includes the instrument. I’m excited about the idea, but without financial support, I don’t think I could produce it to an appropriate level of quality.

And finally, I get to the part where it becomes clear why I am bothering you.

Are you interested in expanding your portfolio?
If not, would you recommend other publicists?
Do you have any advice for obtaining financial support for my video idea?
Do you have a contact at Razor and Tie who might be interested?

For the record, I am jealous of Laurie Berkner’s success, but I am also proud of her (and you) for making it happen. I admire her talent and skill, and she inspires me to keep trying.

    Thanks for reading.
    Silly Stevie T.

    Hi Silly,

Yes, at the moment with two little ones I can't handle taking on anyone else. Maybe in a couple of years! Meanwhile try my mom, Elizabeth Waldman at Waldmania: waldmania@comcast.net.

As for financial support, I'm afraid I have no idea - and I only work with PR at Razor and Tie so I don't know how to go about getting on their label or using them as distributors.

    Best of luck!

    Dear Mrs. Cranky

You mentioned your mom and that reminded me that I used to know the lady when she still lived in Shakaga. What a fine lady!!!! I hope she and you, Cranky and all the little Crankies are well and happy.
